Last week I introduced Tabnine, an AI pair programming company with impressive growth.

This week: Kite!  Another AI pair programming company…with a very different trajectory…

The kite fails to fly...

The crazy thing is Kite had A LOT going for it.

Their investor list was a who’s who in Silicon Valley.

It included Dropbox co-founder Drew Houston, PayPal co-founder Max Levchin, Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, co-founder Emmett Shear, and Trinity Ventures.

These investors put in ~$23M to fuel Kite.

Because they believed in Kite’s CEO, Adam Smith.

Drew Houston recommends Adam Smith on LinkedIn

There’s nothing to suggest this isn’t true.

For instance, Adam did build an impressive team.

Since Kite shut down, the team has joined both FAANG companies and the top startups out there.  And they’ve founded 9 new companies (so far)!

So, this was a well-funded and well-connected startup filled with incredibly smart and capable people.

What gives?
